Hooray for Bradley!

Bradley won his first official game as a head coach. His career as a winning coach has officially begun. I guess we can give the team some credit too :). They beat Laramie County 3-1 and it was a pretty good game. The men also won their game 2-0. It was a fun day of watching soccer. We headed over after I got Donovan fed and changed after church and we were there for almost 5 hours. Donovan had a blast running around and getting nice and dirty. We got home a few minutes ago and he crashed on the couch. He was so tired, he almost didn't make it during our 3 minute drive home. He will probably be up late tonight, but there was no way I could keep him awake! Anyway, it was a great day for soccer! Their next game is on Tuesday in Fort Dodge, Iowa. I am watching Addi that day so we will skip driving out there!

Here is a little pouty face to tide you over until the next post.

Highly Unlikely

I got an interesting call from Hannah this morning. She was at her daycare job and some girl got out her camera to show Hannah some pictures (sorry Hannah, I will probably butcher this story) and told her she found the camera at Valley View park and picked it up because it was pouring outside and since she didn't know who to turn it in to, she kept it and used it. Hannah told her it was probably ours and the girl asked what our son's name was and she said, "Donovan" and the girl said it was Mason in the video (I had pictures and video from Mason's party on it) and Hannah said, "that's my nephew!" So we got our camera back! A month later! What are the chances of that, seriously?! Brad was so smart to wait to get a new one. I wanted a new one the next day. I guess I had better trust his instincts from now on. Lenna and Scott will get their old camera back, thanks for letting us use it guys!

My adorable little BULLY!

Don't let the adorable face fool you.

There were times when I told myself I was going to make sure Donovan was tough so he could stand up for himself. Not fight or be a bully, but not take crap from people. One of the kids in nursery is a real punk and pushes kids over for no reason so I mostly wanted him to protect himself from that little boy. I don't think I actively told him to push kids back, but we did teach him to tell us to go away. Whoops. We went to the library this morning and he was actually doing really well. He played close by me while I picked out some books and wasn't as loud as usual. Then some 4-5 year old kid came over to play with the toys Donovan was playing with and Donovan pushed him and said, "go away". I immediately walked over and told him we are nice to people and keep our hands to ourselves, we don't push. I also told him to say he was sorry and he said, "no" and tried to kick the little boy!! How do you teach a 2 year old to apologize? He is so good at saying "please"and "thank you", but he won't say, "I'm sorry". I felt so bad. The little boy told both of his grandparents and they were really nice about it, knowing Donovan is young, but I still felt really bad. I guess I have to teach him not to pick on wimps. Watching him push that kid kind of reminded me of my little brother Tyler. He has always been one of the smallest kids his age and instead of being bullied, he was the bully!! At least I have time to correct it before he goes to school!

My hair, and Brad reading a book

Brad can read, I have proof. He hasn't read a book since I met him and he found a book he has a hard time putting down! I bet you can't guess what it's about... It's a biography about Anson Dorrance, one of the best college soccer coaches in history. 20 championships in 30 years is pretty darn impressive.
I really can't take a serious picture of myself, I'm not one of those people. The bangs are pretty long, but I am trying to grow them out.

The goings on

Our week wasn't too exciting. Donovan has been playing with all of his new toys and is loving all of them! He liked tearing pieces off his playdoh and when he was done I had to clean it up and give him a different color so he could do it all over again. I don't trust him out of his chair yet.

The guitar is still his favorite toy to play with, but he was also playing with his tools at the same time one morning! Apparently it needed some screws tightened. He was all over that job.
On Sunday night, we had one of the players from the guy's soccer team and his wife over. They were a lot of fun and I'm glad they are in our ward! She chopped my hair off today! Maybe if I feel like I look good one day, I'll post a picture. I really like it. ShayLea had done it before and I liked it, but I was ready for something different. I have been a little bipolar about my hair lately. Anyway, while they were here, we played Rockband and Donovan rocked out on the drums again.

We had Addi on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Donovan is getting more accustomed to having her over. I have started to get a little braver and took them to the mall one day. It made me realize how little Donovan listens and does what I say. He is such a 2 year old! It's like he knows it's harder for me to carry out a punishment when I have another child to take care of. I guess I just need to be consistent and hope it sinks in!

I sit her down a lot when I have to change his diaper or spend some time playing with him (he starts to get jealous after a while). He wanted to sit by her so he climbed up and whenever she touched him he pretended she was tickling him. It was really cute.
Addi basically just tolerated it.Donovan has been getting a lot better with his words and even speaks some 3 word sentences. Brad taught him how to say, "Mommy, go away", because Donovan had told me to to "go away" when I told him it was nap time. So I taught him how to tell his daddy to go away too.
He loves waffles, so when I ask him what he wants for breakfast he usually says, "awfuls". He also brought his oval block to me once and said, "oval", so things are sinking in! I'm loving it! He is getting good with colors too. He consistently remembers green and pink. I have a set of cards we look at twice a day with shapes and colors and he gets really squirmy and won't sit still so I worry that I'm wasting my time and he's not learning anything, but he really is! He is a smarter boy than I give him credit for.

I know my child is naked in this video again, but I really do dress him sometimes. I promise. He looks so long and skinny to me! I love his moves.

Tonight, Lenna, Hannah, and I "helped" with the open house for Kevin from Heaven's marriage celebration. There wasn't much for us to do, (of course it was basically done, Joyce is always on the ball) but Lenna and I got some time away from kids, it was great! The men brought the kids for a little while, but we stayed later to help clean up. It was really nice. Those Hanks's really know how to throw a party, and now we have enough ham to last us the rest of the year. I wish I had taken pictures while we were there. Kevin's bride, Angie had a GORGEOUS wedding dress. I could never pull that dress off, it was much too fancy and sparkly.

There are 2 home games next week, woot! So far, Brad's team has won all of their scrimmages. They have their first real game on the 30th, I'm sure they will do great! I haven't spent a lot of time with them, but they seem like a fun group. They all have a blast with Donovan and he likes them, so they must be great! Donovan is such a little flirt, he isn't very shy at all. He is a little charmer, he talks to almost anyone now and gives them his best grins and silliest giggles.

Happy Birthday Bradley!!!

Brad is an old man! He turned 26 today. Wow, I have a really handsome husband.

Donovan's celebration

I wanted to post some pictures I took earlier this week and forgot about! Donovan found his bibs one day and had to wear them both. It was pretty hilarious watching him put them on and try to get them off. He would peek at me and when we made eye contact he would laugh.
He has done pretty well with Addi around. We had her twice this week while Lenna and Scott were both working. He has had a hard time with the fact that I can't jump up and do what he wants me to do if I'm in the middle of making a bottle, feeding, or trying to change her. He does like to be next to her sometimes and liked the idea of lying down by her. I just had to move him because he was about to squish her arm.
He's just cute and I love his blue eyes!
For Donovan's party, we were going to go to a park and grill hot dogs, but yesterday ended up being a pretty yucky day. It was storming in the morning and by the afternoon it was still cloudy and the ground was wet. I asked Lenna if we could have the party at their place since it's bigger than ours, and thankfully, she let us! We invited Brad's uncle Larry and his wife Patsy who also brought their grandson, Josh. David and Joyce came too as well as Hannah and of course, Mason, Lenna, and Addi. Scott had to work so we saved him some food for when he got home.

Donovan was spoiled completely and poor Mason had a rough time with the fact that it was Donovan's birthday and not his (you'll hear him crying in the background of the video of Donovan opening a present). It has to be hard when it was his birthday just a couple weeks ago and the presents were all his! He calmed down enough to enjoy playing with Donovan's new toys and realized that he will be able to play with them when he comes over to our place.

I think he may have been a little overwhelmed with all of the presents. There were so many to open! He would open one halfway and move onto another. He did stop for one present though. David and Joyce were the big winners. They gave him his favorite gift. They got him an awesome toy guitar. He loves it! So far it has provided hours of entertainment, for him and us!
Mason loved the guitar too!He ended up with a pile of shirts, a jacket and 2 pairs of pajamas, a new show, and more toys than he will be able to play with! Thank you everyone! He loves all of his presents. He loved the dinosaur jammies from his Granny and Papa Silvey, he even said they were "cute" (funny story, he loves to grab clothes, hold them up to himself and say "cute"). He also loved the awesome toy Black & Decker tool set from his Grandma and Papa Goodman! He loves tools and was pounding away with his hammer this morning until he saw the guitar out of the corner of his eye...the loudest toy always wins...

Here are the frog cupcakes I made. They are nowhere close to looking professional, but I think they turned out cute. Mason and Donovan both knew what they were, so I considered them a success! The batteries were having issues in the camera, so this was the second take of the birthday song and blowing out the candles. He was just too good at it, we couldn't finish! We decided to let Mason blow out some candles too because he had such a hard time with the presents. We didn't want a repeat.

Mmmmm...chocolate... He ate 2 cupcakes, so I guess he liked them!It was so fun to get all of the cards and birthday calls. I will speak for Donovan when I say, he had an awesome birthday! It is nice to see how many people were thinking of him and how many people love and support him. I love family and the role it plays in our lives! We always have a support system for us and our child. I couldn't ask for better families whether it be blood, in laws, or even adopted aunts and uncles (we love all the Hanks's!). We are so grateful to have all of these amazing people in our child's life. I still can't believe he is 2, the time flies by so fast. Joyce made the comment last night about how she remembered me sitting on the couch with my belly reading Twilight (I stayed with them the week before Donovan was born because Bradley was out of town). I started to remember my pregnancy and remembered how much he moved! Not much has changed! I am a firm believer that a lot of a child's personality is inherited, so I should have known he was just getting me ready for all of the leg bouncing (he has been jumping since the day he was born, some of you should remember), the squirming, and all of the energy he was going to have! He is such a special boy. He drives me crazy some days, but I wouldn't trade him for anyone or anything. We love you Donovan!!!

Here is the video of Donovan enjoying his awesome guitar. He made the best face when he was trying to get into it.

visit to Dr. Jones

Donovan had his 2 year checkup today. He is right on track with everything, we just need him to drink more milk! I wonder where he gets his dislike for milk...oops. He is 30 lbs (75th percentile) and 35 inches (also 75th percentile). He is slowly growing into his baby fat! He's not the chubby little boy we used to have, he is slimming down a lot! He is looking more like us now with his little ribs poking out. He was more timid with Dr. Jones than he used to be. He hasn't been there for 6 months, but I think he remembered the shots from his 18 month appt. He was very nervous and wouldn't get off my lap or let me let go of him. He had to have my arms around him or he whined a lot. Poor kid, at least he didn't get shots. That would have been too much for him!

Happy Birthday #2 Donovan

I can't believe it has already been 2 years since this handsome little boy was born. I feel like he has always been mine, but it has gone by so fast! I love looking back at pictures because he has changed so much in such a short time. I hope you enjoy them too!
Some of the things we love (and tolerate) about Donovan:
-He is an endless ball of energy! Even when it's bed time, he is jumping on his bed and singing until he falls asleep.
-He thinks he's very sneaky and tries to get away with a lot. Any ideas besides time outs?
-If I can get him to look at me, he listens very well!
-He is very good at throwing away his trash. I didn't realize it was sinking in until I heard the cupboard open and looked in to see his fruit snack wrapper in the trash!
-He says "thank you, Mommy" (but it sounds like, "gink oo, mommy").
-He loves to dance and sing. He will stop and dance anywhere if he hears music! He was dancing at Old Navy this morning.
-He is very good at eating his fruits and veggies. He loves apples, cucumbers, and broccoli (but it has to be cooked and unseasoned).
-He finds humor with almost everything. He loves to laugh!
-He has the cutest toothy grin!
-He gives the best hugs and kisses.
-Brad's favorite thing is that he is our only child.

We aren't celebrating until Saturday, but Donovan kept asking me to make him a cake. I love that he knows to associate cake with birthdays! He kept bringing me the cake mix saying "cake, cake". We made him a cake and went shopping with some birthday money when Bradley got home. When we got home we dug into some cake! I was planning on getting all the party supplies tomorrow, so we didn't have any candles. We used matches, we felt like being a little white trash. He didn't seem to care.

finally

Lenna went back to work today, so she brought Addi over this morning. She also brought a camera!! Hooray! I took a few pictures of Donovan and Addi and they are both being really good right now, so I thought I would post them while I have the chance.

Donovan LOVES oatmeal. Don't ask me why or how, I used to hate oatmeal as a child, but he loves it.

Poor Addi has to use all of Donovan's boy blankets and burp cloths when she comes over here. I figured it would be easier than hauling her stuff over every day.
Donovan had a pretty easy time adjusting to having Addi here, but I let him watch a movie anyway! He is getting so big!!
Adorable little Addilyn. She is such a fun little girl...unless she is hungry or has gas.
She is so funny on her tummy.
She tries so hard to move! Her face is always buried in the blanket because she is trying to get her bum in the air!I will post more tomorrow night for Donovan's birthday! He knows how old he is going to be! Whether or not he understands what that means doesn't really matter, he can say it!

I don't love technology...

I found the cable I needed to connect the camcorder to the computer, but apparently Windows Vista doesn't support the driver we need to upload it. I officially hate Vista. I didn't have a problem with it before, but now it officially sucks. Lenna did say we could use their old camera for a little while, so I will have to get that sometime soon. I will definitely have it for Donovan's birthday!

Birthday, etc.

I finally have Donovan's birthday all figured out. I wasn't stressed about it, I just didn't want it to be lame. I am a Silvey after all, I have to be a little creative or I might be shunned! I'm getting pretty excited, it's funny how I'm more excited about his birthday than I am about mine. I just love birthdays and want his to be awesome...even though he probably won't remember it! Less than a week!

The video is all ready to go, hopefully I can get it posted later. I can't find the cord to upload it so I have to wait for Bradley. I hope we have it! It's pretty long, but some parts are pretty darn cute. I have an adorable child, what can I say?

A few things about Donovan

I still haven't uploaded the video, I haven't been on the computer a whole lot the last few days. Donovan's little personality develops every day! He is getting to be a little character, he cracks me up. His new favorite things to do are make silly faces (he is getting pretty good at them), he repeats the last word of almost every sentence I say, he is very polite and is getting very good at saying "thank you" whenever someone does something for him, he likes to dance (even when there isn't music) and is getting some pretty awesome rhythm, he is constantly pounding on everything like it's a drum, and he has figured out how to get out of the bathtub by himself. He thinks he's really funny when he gets out of the tub and runs to the room we are in. We have finished his birthday shopping! I am really excited for him to open all of his presents. I think he's going to enjoy it. He was a little jealous on Mason's birthday when he couldn't open any presents. I still don't really know what to do for his cake, oh well, I have a little over a week.

So it begins...

Brad starts training tomorrow. It is going to be a long 2 weeks of 3 a days. Does anyone have ideas for Donovan and me? I have the feeling I am going to go a little crazy without my husband around very often. I guess I could start planning Donovan's 2nd birthday party next week, but really how much planning goes into a 2 year old's birthday party? Any ideas on a cake? There are so many things Donovan enjoys. It's hard to pin down one thing that he enjoys more than others.

Anyway, I have been taking some video of Donovan with our video camera (that we haven't used since Donovan was born), so I will try to figure out how to get it on the computer to post. It may take a while without Bradley around.
