Donovan is grinding his teeth a lot lately. How do I prevent this? It drives me insane and it can't be good for his teeth. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is a problem that needs to be fixed. Any advice?

Deanna, I can't believe how big he has gotten. He is darling.
If you get some good advise I might have to be checking back to see what it is because the girls are bad teeth grinders. I mainly think it is just when their teeth really hurt them though.
My experience with Mason and teeth grinding is the more you bring attention to it, the more he will do it...or maybe that's just my stubborn kid. I always just slapped Mason in the mouth...JK. I always tried to give him something new to chew on or suck - a cold wash cloth or something like that. You can also just give him a drink or a little snack and hope he'll forget about the sensation long enough that when he's done eating/drinking he won't start grinding again. I also just grab him by the chin and kind of massage his jaw or do silly things with it to try to distract him from doing it some more. He's probably working on those molars. Did they ever push through all the way?
Sorry I don't have any experience with teeth grinding. Sounds like Lenna has it covered or... you could google it.
The only thing I know about teeth grinding is with older kids. I did it in my sleep and had to wear a bright orange mouth guard like football players. Let me know what you figure out as far as babies go though. I'm sure the info will come in handy with Colin.
Deanna,
This is steve by the way. I'm at work, working hard, I promise... Anyway, what you do is take a teeny bit of baby toothpaste, the kind with sparkles and all the cool stuff. Then, you place one tiny drop, about the size of the head of a needle, on each of his top teeth. After this, you count to 15 so as to allow him time to taste the paste. After you have counted, say "your teeth are white and small, but don't you grind or you won't have any at all." If you're still taking this advice serious, then you have more problems than donovan's grinding of teeth. I seriously have no clue how to fix it, but I don't ever comment your blog to give a little hello from the Steve Goodman's so I thought I'd do that today.
ps, the last sentence didn't make much sense, but it was supposed to make the point that I'm saying hi and you guys look great.
